The Department of Printing under
the Ministry of Information and Communication has been operating
printing press of the government in order for meeting general
and security printing needs of several government agencies. It
is equipped with some conventional types of machineries and equipments.
It has a long history in itself on printing. With the increasing
emergence of private sectors in printing, the role of DOP has
been confined merely to meeting the partial printing needs of
government sector. The existing Department of Printing is the
product of accumulated printing experiences gained from the time
of first publication of Gorakhapatra on 1958 BS (1901) More

Establishment Having started from the printing of first
newspaper of Nepal i.e., Gorakhapatra in the year 1958 BS, the
government printing press started printing out Nepal Gazette since
2008 BS. It kept on moving across fulfilling different printing
needs of the government from then on. A landmark policy transformation
was observed in the history of Department of Printing following
the formulation of National Information Policy 2049 and the beginning
of Eighth Five Year Plan.
